Liposuction is helpful when you have areas that fail to improve or excess fat. These are most frequently the outer thighs and hips for women and love handles and the tummy for men. You may be a good candidate for liposuction if you have localized excess fat or desire contouring in any of the following areas:
1. Cheeks, jowls and neck
2. Upper arms
3. Breast or chest areas back
4. Abdomen and waist
5. Hips and buttocks
6. Inner and outer thigh
7. Inner knee
8. Calves and ankles

Age is not the limiting factor for liposuction provided you are in good health. If your skin is stretched and loose from pregnancy or weight loss, then liposuction may not help. In these situations, it is more effective to remove the extra skin, itself. This is especially true in the arms, tummy, inner thighs and buttocks. Dr. Viral Desai can explain the best procedure to improve your appearance at your consultation.

We use the ‘tumescent technique’, where the surgeon injects large quantities of fluid through a small incision. The fluid reduces the risk of bleeding. The fat swells with the fluid going into the fat layers. A cannula is then passed through the swollen fat cells. Suction through the cannula removes the fatty tissue and the fluid that has been injected.

The incisions are very small (about 3-4 mm) and they are placed in the natural body creases, so that they are not visible.
The very small incisions made to insert the cannula are barely visible.

It is a day care surgery. There is no need for hospitalization. You can go home the same day.

You can resume your normal work in 2-4 days.

A special garment will be measured and fitted for you. It will need to be worn for 4-6 weeks post operation. The garment is fully washable.

In general, you should not engage in strenuous activity for 3 weeks.

  • "I am a resident of Dubai. I heard about Dr. Desai from a friend who had a liposuction by Dr. Desai eight years ago. I was amazed to see my friend's results and hence took the decision to have a mega-liposuction done with Dr. Viral. My mega-liposuction helped me lose tremendous amount of body fat and inches. I saw myself slimmer and fitter after many years. We were very pleased with the entire care provided by Dr. Desai's staff, right from consultation till post-operative care. Dr. Desai too took utmost care of us. Later, Dr. Desai informed me that I had 22 litres of fat removed in one session – this was the highest ever reported in India. My story was covered in the Times of India. The recovery was very smooth and I flew back home to Dubai after only eight days after the surgery. Looking at my results, my mother, at the age of 62, decided to also go for this procedure."

I had tried everything from diets to gym to aerobics to hot yoga before being convinced that it would be impossible for me to go back to my old waist size again. Fortunately, a few months ago I bumped into a friend of mine - Ritesh - who told me about his wonderful experience with CPLSS. Encouraged and with a ray of hope, I called CPLSS. Today, three months after having a liposuction procedure, I can happily claim to have surpassed my goal of dropping a few inches! • "After delivery I had put weight around the abdomen, lower back, hips and love handles. I tried many methods to reduce - diet, exercise, etc. and lost some weight, but the resistant fat never went away. A friend of mine had liposuction done with Dr. Desai five years ago and referred me to CPLSS. I had apprehensions getting a procedure done in India, and was contemplating London as an option. Hoever, after speaking with other doctors in India and after meeting Dr. Desai, I was convinced about the cleanliness, hygiene and surgical expertise available at CPLSS were as good as, if not better than, international facilities. I had my procedure done and am very very happy with the results. I had a lot of questions which were answered patiently and in details by Dr. Viral Desai and his team. Frequently Asked Questions

What is Liposuction?

The concept of liposuction is surprisingly simple. Liposuction is a surgical technique that improves the body’s contour by removing excess fat deposits located between the skin and muscle.

What is Tumescent Liposuction?

Tumescent liposuction designates a form of liposuction that uses tumescent local anesthesia. The tumescent technique for liposuction totally by local anesthesia has eliminated the greatest dangers associatedThe word tumescent refers to anything that is swollen and firm. In the tumescent technique for liposuction, a large volume of very dilute solution of local anesthesia (lidocaine and epinephrine) is injected into the fat beneath the skin, causing the targeted area to become tumescent. The local anesthetic lidocaine in the tumescent solution provides such complete local anesthesia, that it eliminates the need for general anesthesia, or IV sedation. The drug epinephrine (adrenalin) provides profound localized vasoconstriction that it virtually eliminates surgical bleeding during tumescent liposuction. By eliminating the risks of general anesthesia and the risks of excessive surgical bleeding, the tumescent technique for liposuction has eliminated the greatest dangers associated with the older forms of liposuction. with the older forms of liposuction.

What are Elastic Compression Garments?

Elastic compression garments (specially designed girdles) post liposuction are beneficial for the patient
1) Minimizes swelling and reduces pain
2) Improves blood circulation
3) Speeds up healing process
4) Maintains the elasticity of the skin. Most surgeons require that patients wear an elastic compression garment for a certain length of time after liposuction.

What is the Cost of Liposuction?

The cost of liposuction usually depends on many factors like which part of the body is treated, any other areas of the body or the body type. When only one area is treated by liposuction the fee is less than when multiple areas are treated.

Am I A Good Candidate for Liposuction Surgery?

A good candidate for liposuction is any person who has realistic expectations and is in good health.

What Are The Realistic Expectations Which I Can Have From My Liposuction Surgery?

After liposuction, the new body’s shape is more or less permanent. If a patient does gain a moderate amount of weight after liposuction, then the figure will simply be a larger version of the new body shape. Fat cells that are removed by liposuction do not grow back.

Which Areas Can Be Treated By Liposuction?

The most frequently treated areas for women are the abdomen, breasts, hips, outer thighs, anterior thighs, inner thighs, knees, arms, buttocks, cheeks and neck. In men, who comprise about 15% to 25% of liposuction patients, the most commonly treated areas include the chin and neck area, abdomen, flanks (“love-handles”), and breasts.

What kind of Qualifications should a Liposuction Surgeon have?

Liposuction is most commonly performed by surgeons who have acquired special training in the techniques of liposuction. Surgeons who perform liposuction or other cosmetic surgeries are called “cosmetic surgeons.”

What are the Complications and Risks of Liposuction Surgery?

The most dangerous aspect of liposuction is an attitude that ignores the risk of doing too much liposuction on a single day, or disregards the risks of doing multiple unrelated surgical procedures on the same day that liposuction surgery is performed. As judged by current worldwide experience, liposuction is amazingly safe. Rare problems that can potentially occur with any surgical procedure include infections, bleeding, skin ulcerations, and nerve injury.

What Questions Should I Ask before Choosing A Liposuction Surgeon?

Decisions about liposuction should not be based solely on the cost of liposuction. The cheapest procedure might mean that the surgeon does the procedure quickly and incompletely. You should feel free to ask any question you have about liposuction. In fact, it is the patient’s responsibility to make sure that all important questions have been asked and answered before making any final decisions about having liposuction.

What are the Important Characteristics of a Safe Surgical Facility?

Liposuction can be performed in a doctor’s office, in an outpatient surgery center, or in a hospital. A safe surgical facility for liposuction must be able to minimize the risks of surgical infections. Surgeries should be done in operating rooms that maintain high standards of cleanliness.

What is the safest form of liposuction? What is a liposuction cannula?

Tumescent liposuction with local anesthesia is the safest form of liposuction. Liposuction using general anesthesia or heavy IV sedation is somewhat less safe than liposuction totally by local anesthesia. Microcannulas permit smoother results after liposuction. A liposuction cannula is a small stainless steel tube that is inserted through an incision in the skin and removes subcutaneous fat.

How long is the Liposuction Surgery Post-Op and Recovery time?

When liposuction is done totally by local anaesthesia, patients can usually depart from the surgical facility within 30 minutes of the completion of surgery. When general anaesthesia is employed, then patients usually require one to three hours of post-anaesthesia observation before being discharged home. Most patients can return to a desk-type job with two days after tumescent liposuction. Because of the significant decrease in swelling, inflammation and pain after tumescent liposuction, patients are able to return to normal physical activities very soon.

Is there Pain or Discomfort after Liposuction Surgery?

During the two days immediately after liposuction, the amount of pain experienced depends on the type of anesthesia used for liposuction. Soreness is usually the most intense 2 to 4 days after liposuction and then decreases steadily. The tenderness and soreness typically is quite bothersome for up to 4 weeks, but gradually subsides over the following next 4 to 8 weeks.

How does Liposuction Affect the Appearance of the Skin? Does Liposuction Produce Visible Scars?

The appearance of skin after liposuction depends on the skin’s elasticity. Skin with good elasticity should look smooth and natural after liposuction. Scars are not a common problem with modern liposuction which uses very small cannulas (microcannulas) and thus only very small incisions are required.
